Visit product page →Massively neglected classic album from 1994. f you know MF Doom, you probably know the history of this album. KMD was the original group consisting of Subrock, Zev luv-X (Doom) & Onyx. Onyx left and then while working on this LP Doom's brother Subrock was killed in a car accident. As the LP was finished Elektra shelved the album and dropped Doom due to the controversial cover art, (a sambo hanging from a gallows.)
Years later some of the rough cuts of the LP emerged on the Fondel Em' label as the "Black Ba***rd's: Roughs & Rares EP" giving a small hint to what greatness the album could have been. A few years later under Doom's own Metal Face Records "Black Bas***ds" finally saw the light of day. -

Few at the time would realize that Lifestylez — which was only a modest commercial success at the time - would go on to be considered a true classic of the era, comparable to Illmatic itself. Armed with a cocky Uptown attitude, a sharp wit and production from the likes of Lord Finesse, Buckwild and Showbiz, Big L established himself as one of New York's Hip Hop heavyweights with an album that balanced radio appeal with uncompromising hardcore lyricism. From the smooth sounds of 'M.V.P.' to raw posse cuts like '8 Iz Enuff' and 'Da Graveyard' (which featured a rookie MC from Brooklyn by the name of Jay-Z), Lifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerouz solidified Big L's status as a Hip Hop legend despite being the only studio album released prior to his tragic death in 1999. Visit product page →Debut collaborative album from MF Doom and Jneiro Jarel under the moniker JJ Doom. On paper, a full collaborative album from Doom and space age production from Jneiro Jarel can't fail. In practice it's even better. Doom is in the form of his life here. JJ produced all the tracks, Doom provided the bulk of the vocals and compiled the cut and paste skits. Doom recorded the album while 'banished' from the States and back living in london. He references British culture throughout the album, name dropping British institutions, and possibly being the first mcee to reference My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding. Jneiro recording the beats in the dirty south, got into a UK state mind, and turned in heavy hip hop production that leans towards grime, dubstep and British techno. The album will appeal to fans of classic Doom material. JJ's tough, far out hip hop production will appeal to fans of Dilla, Flying Lotus and el-p. It also features guest appearances from Beth Gibbons, Damon Albarn and Khujo (goodie mob). Tracks from the album have already been remixed by Thom Yorke / Jonny Greenwood and Dave Sitek. Album artwork is by graffiti artist Steve Powers aka Espo.
